2020 was, by all accounts, a challenging year for the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has wrought upon us one of the worst global economic and public health crisis we have ever seen. Malaysia was not spared too, with the low-income community unable to work due to the movement control order (MCO), pulling a plug on their source of daily income and pushing them further into poverty.
Children were affected too, with the year-long school closures causing actual learning loss that was dubbed the “COVID-slide”. This was especially pronounced among children whose families could not afford data or devices to enable them to attend school online.
Before the pandemic, a lot of GG’s work involved meeting the communities and running programs on-ground, but the lockdown had us put a stop to all of our programs. The pandemic and subsequent lockdowns caused new emerging needs among the communities to surface and we had to pivot our work to ensure that these emerging needs were met.
We are honoured to present to you GG’s Impact Report for 2020. Through this report, we would like to share how we were able to stay true to our mission of helping vulnerable communities during these trying times in unconventional ways.
